We went to the cinema with huge anticipation and with little expectation. What will happen to both of them? Will we walk out of the movie half way through? will they cry?

HFMD HOME KIT

Yes, you may wonder why? 1 month ago, my brother got it. 3 weeks ago, Jazelle & my best friend's son got it and last week i got it and yesterday, my best friend got it.. BOY! isnt HFMD happens only to kids? or are we still kiddos??

Whatever the case, i thought the best way is to record the experience and share with all what to expect and what should you do if you have one! (touch wood!! ) =)

Day 1 - A sudden fever will hit you. You are not sure why and how but it just come. After your usual dosage of panadol, you will recover and everything returns to normal.

Day 2 - small patches of red spots will be appear on your palms or soles.

Day 3 - the red spot gets more and some will have ulcers in your throat/tongue or mouth.

Day 4 - the red spots turns painful.. especially when you stand up / walk or move your finger joints.

Day 5 - More spots and pain continues.

Day 6 - Pain subsides and some red spots may blister . and some blister may just break at this point.

Day 7 onwards - recovering stage

So how exactly is HFMD spread? We will frantically research when it happens to us.. here is a good link.http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/revb/enterovirus/hfhf.htm

Extracted from the link :

1. Infection is spread from person to person by direct contact with infectious virus. Infectious virus is found in the nose and throat secretions, saliva, blister fluid, and stool of infected persons. The virus is most often spread by persons with unwashed, virus-contaminated hands and by contact with virus-contaminated surfaces.
2. Infected persons are most contagious during the first week of the illness.
3. The viruses that cause HFMD can remain in the body for weeks after a patient's symptoms have gone away. This means that the infected person can still pass the infection to other people even though he/she appears well. Also, some persons who are infected and excreting the virus, including most adults, may have no symptoms.
4. HFMD is not transmitted to or from pets or other animals.

So what must you have at home?

First, it is definitely isolation and personal hygiene. Here are my recommended HFMD Home Kit!

1. Good antiseptic shower wash - eg Detol

2. Hand Sanitizer (more for your family or visitors)

3. Medication prescribe by your family doctor. ( vitamins, anti- inflammation pills, pain killers etc ) till date there is no medication for HFMD except medication to assist ur pain. itch etc.

4. Isotonic drinks ( 100plus etc) - this is good to supplement your body as your appetite will be affected due to the uclers.

5. Honey - some say Manuka (you will be surprise by the pain of normal drinking water)

6. Stock up rice to cook porriage, udon or soba ( which is easier for your throat)

7 . Ice cream

8. Have your laptop with internet, books and DVD movies as they will be your best companion!

with that, you should survive the attack from HFMD! =)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

This christmas has been a memorable one for us all. First, we have our first ever.. BLOCK LEVEL PARTY! Yes, right at the corridor! All thanks to our neighbours Samatha and Francis for organising it.. It was an amazing feeling with lots of friends, food and 'Kampong' bonding!

But on the down side, our 2 princesses were down with flu and cough... been a week and they dont really seems to be better.. Temperature goes up and down like the stock market and their energy seems to be zapped up by the virus day by day.. I hope they will recover soon for the new year count down!! What Happen to the JJ sisters?

It had been a while since my last blog.. thousands of apology! Been really busy and yes.. getting lazy.. But with some many months of non blogging.. it is indeed tough to start. where should i start?

If you are not aware.. Jazelle is 3yrs 6mths and Jazlyn is almost 2 yrs old now! Time flies isn't it? Both are growing up fine, the usual fights among siblings which always get on the nerves on many.. but they know they can literally escape punishment with their ever innocent smiles! Having 2 gals just 18 months apart have it's pros and cons. On one hand, they are close friends and love each other lots! (so much so they bite each other! =p) But on the other hand, the younger one tend to speak slower as she learns more from Jazelle.. (yes, even the mischievous acts!)

Bringing them overseas was a challenge as we went to Perth 2 months ago.. The flight was alright but planning their daily meals can be a challenge. We drove around and one amazing thing is that they fell asleep the moment they are in the car. It could be the nice cool weather or they didnt get enough of sleep the night before. But whatever the reasons, it worked wonder for us.. But when it comes to exhausting their energy, the usual victims are usually us the parents! We were drained each day till they got on to bed each night. But having said all these, the trip has been an enjoyable and wonderful experience for us ! and thanks to Grandma that was with us and the wonderful meals she prepared for us!

So enough said, here they are!

Princess Jazelle's FIRST visit to the Dentist.

Milk before sleep can be quite an expensive habit! It's not just about the milk powder but it could lead to tooth decay. Our princess went to have her checkup for her tooth and to my queen's horror, the dentist told her that her right molar is badly decay and may need to go for baby root canal treatment! What? root canal? at such a young age? wouldn't that be tramatising to our princess? and it is very costly.

Fortunately, the dentist tried to reduce the decay with some treatment and when i brought jazelle for another checkup, he said there may be another option. But she can't escape the drill..

As you know, bringing out kids for their dental checkup can never be exciting as the playground. They tend to fear and thus making it difficult for the dentist to treat. But there are several tricks we can use to ensure they enjoy their visit.

1. First visit is important and thus have a great dentist that is patient and love kids.

2. Make your kid relaxed before the visit and i told my gal, she is visiting Uncle Yeo instead of Dr Yeo.

3. Use fun words and keep their mind occupied . Such as roar like a lion! we are taking the worms out from your mouth and keep praising them when they did the right things.

4. Create fun stories for them to enjoy the session and when you are back home, continue to play Dr Yeo!!

Have fun with the visit to the dentist!!

Time Flies!!! Happy Birthday! Princess Jazelle!! and Happy Daddy's Day!! To ME!!!

It was just 3 years ago when our princess Jazelle was born on the 6th June and i celebrated my first Daddy's day. In that very blog i wrote i was the person who is penning it down and the same person who took the photos! and i can't wait for that day my gals will blog their daddy's day for me. =) Well at least for now, my queen is learning to take the photos.=)

Time really flies too.. Both the sisters are growing up fine and well like my previous tips for dad, the tips for dad for having 2 kids will be really different. It will not be a longer list of dos and donts but just one. Have a GREAT QUEEN!

She will be the one buying the books, showering the gals with love , tender and care and somehow, the king is the "bad guy" in the house! Common voices such as "Daddy is here!! quick quick.. Daddy is coming!! stop being so naughty! " What to do? At least i have a role to play at home! =)

Finally! We understood what Jazelle is trying to say!

Remember in my previous blog, i did say that i will try to update all what our princess is doing in school. Unfortunately, we are not able to do so.. The school seems so secretive and do not allow family member to be around. Though we know it is good for the kid's independence training... but can't we just peep?? can't we just see if our princess is having fun??

Each time we asked her what she learned in school, she will say cooking! asked her wat she eat? she can't seems to answer. Then came the time, she kept singing so loudly and we guessed she must have learnt it in school. But we parents have no clues what she is singing as she mumbles her way through.. However, one thing that she will say it repeatedly is "there, take school bus!" ie. that's where she takes her school bus.. ! so clever! =)

Wat about mandarin? the feedback from the teacher is that her chinese speaking is only average.. and of course my queeen started to search/ rent/ buy chinese books to inspire her to read. But one sentence that princess jazelle said with perfect mandarin that blew my queen away is " Wo ai Ma Ma!"

The wheels on the bus goes round and round....

That was a song our Princess Jazelle love to sing when she was younger. But just a few days ago, that song kept ringing in my head. Why? because i was waiting for her to come back from her school. Her first bus trip on her own! Boy.. it was such an experience!

First, jazelle missed the school bus in the morning. My mother in law brought her down 10 mins earlier and they still missed the bus by a 2 mintues! How frustrating it can be! But i was told by my MIL that it is always normal for us to come down 15mins earlier to wait cos bus uncle won't wait! (guys! isnt this the same in army? wait to rush and rush to wait.. sign!!) In the end, my MIL has to fetch her to school and the best part was the teacher asked her WHY she didnt allow Jazelle to take her own school bus!! ...? anyway thanks MA! for all the trouble you have to go through to bring her to school..

So, when i was told by my queen that she missed her bus, i was concerned and was worried for her if she could cope with such a drama on her first bus trip! and so happened that i need to go back home to collect some items. I decided to wait for her to see how our princess is doing.

245pm .. hmm she must have ended her class and ready to board the bus
250pm... hmm i hope the bus uncle remembered to pick her up.
255pm.... buses from Clementi woods came and gone, St James came and gone.. where is Faith?
258pm.... open and close my camera to make sure i can take a good pic of jazelle.. she should be arriving any moment..
300pm.. where is she? did the uncle missed the drop off??
302pm... is the bus coming?
305pm.. should i call agnes to ask her to call the bus uncle?
308pm.. THE BUS FINALLY ARRIVED.. and frantically trying to get the camera going.. whew!! Jazelle has arrived safely!

It was my first experience waiting for my princess and the mind literally goes 'the wheels on the bus goes round and round'.. Jazelle came home fine and she was 'relieved' that she saw someone familar when the bus arrived! But she was so tired from school each day that she will KO in matter of mintues.

Friends, both my queen and i are wondering.. What is her typical day in school? what song she sings and what friends is she playing with? any clues? We hope to find out.

So can you feel it? the anxiety of parents? and most importantly inexperience ones like us!! Maybe we are just overly concern and maybe jazelle is really enjoying herself so much that our worries are unfounded. and here is the video taken by the proud king!=)

Jazelle goes to SCHOOL!!!

Yes! Our princess is going to school! Like any parents, we have so much to worry. Who is fetching her, how is she coping, will she cry? can she adapt? and as the slot we were given is from 1145 - 245pm.. should we take half day morning or half day pm?? and the worries go on and on ..

But our friend alicia told us that when the day comes, everything will solved by itself. True enough! my queen took half day leave for the inital 4 days to ensure she is adapting well. My mother in law volunteered to bring her to school for the initial 4 days and my queen has booked the school bus for our princess from the 5th day on.. So what it means is Jazelle is taking the school bus to school! and if you are wondering if we are concern and worried about her taking the school bus? WHAT DO YOU THINK??=) and we were told PRI 1 admission will be another milestone? err ... milestone or nightmare?

What is also means is that the king is so blessed with the sacrifice from his beloved queen that the problems looked so much smaller! =) Thank yOU!!!! my dear! and i truely appreciate your love for our gals! and so here she is.. ***drum roll**** the much awaited photo!

Happy Birthday! Jazlyn!!

Our princess jazlyn has turned one! how time flew past us once again. I remembered saying many times about time zooming past us in my previous blogs and i guess one thing we have to accept is that we are growing old, ain't we?.. (i'm hearing some protest!;).

It was a day of fun, food and activities. Especially for the kids. To our dearest family and friends, Thank you! so much for your well wishes , thoughtful gifts and being part of the party! Both our princess were overhelmed by their new friends and got so tired after the whole day of excitement that they fell alseep almost immediately when they were being belted up in the car!

But all these are made possible because of my beloved queen who has been busy preparing the goody bags, sourcing for the cake and jumping castle etc.. Thank You! my queen!

$55 to be reminded!!!

Jazelle was hit by a stomach virus recently and though she appeared to look alright , she was still having diarrhea and we didn't want to leave it to chance. So my queen brought her to the doc. Spend $55 and only realised that we didn't practice what we already know. ie.. if our princess is having diarrhea, we should not feed her with too much of dairies ie, milk, ice cream etc.. and she just had ice cream the night before.. no wonder she LS!!! But the doc did say that the virus is in the air and he had seen 5 other kids just that same day! and adults were not spared too.. some of my friends got it and my mum was the latest victim! so parents, do take precaution...

What does 100 and Promotion have in common?

Well if you are thinking that i have gotten a pay raise of $100 because i am promoted! you are WRONG! Today , i am writing my 100th Blog!! how cool is that? i didnt know i can last that long. =) It started with the fact that we wanted to share with our friends and love ones how our gals are growing up! but now, it had become such a nice way to share ideas and keeping in touch with all our friends! Now, what about the promotion? I just completed my 2 weeks of reservist today and just this morning, i recieved a call from my camp to be back early to collect my certificate. Am i promoted? or i am granted Miltary Release?? Unfortunately , it was none of them.. I was presented a medal and watch for serving my 10th year in reservist! Oh! and if you are thinking that i was promoted? caught you! =)

The real reason is that i have been promoted to the status of an UNCLE! Yes, my sister has just delivered a beautiful princess. I have a niece!!! so weird but so so HAPPY! it was such a nice feeling of such a promotion..

FROM SHANGHAI TO CHRISTCHURCH

Yes! It is crazy. After our trip to Shanghai just last weekend. I had to travel to Christchurch for a conference till next tuesday. And been away from my queen and princesses are not making my trip any easier... Miss them dearly! How i wish i could bring all of them along to show them the sheeps and the cows and that when night falls, it supposed to be dark and you should see stars! Jazelle is 28mths & Jazlyn is 9 mths old!!

Boy oh BOy! Just as i was telling myself it had been awhile since my last blog that i begin to realise that my gals are no longer the little babies we thought they were! Jazlyn started to 'fight' for her rights with her sis and Jazelle will try to gain her 'popularity vote' by grabbing our attention through her own ways of 'screaming, crying, shouting' etc.. But i guess this is part of growing up.. or is this what the people call it the 'Terrible 2'??

As what most parents will say, no matter how difficult our kids can be, they will always bring joy to us in our hectic and stressful environment! they are like our HAPPY APPLES!! and here is why!=) remember jazelle's facial theraphy?

Can you believe it? New York's 9/11 was 7 years ago in Year 2001! boy! time really flies.. I remembered the faithful evening, i was having some drinks with friends at a local pub and saw that same scene where the twin tower was hit by a plane and i really thought it was just another Hollywood movie! Don't you agree that time just zoom past us like the upcoming F1! =p

7 years today! we have 1 + 1 princesses!!! (proud parents!) =) Terrorist they are not! but just our little terror at home! =) remember how my queen loves to dress them up.. she started with Princess Jazelle, now it's Jazlyn.. here's how!beeeee..

A for Apple, B for Boy, C for Cat....

Ain't these alphabets familiar to you? My queen has attended a talk recently organised by Dumex and was sharing with me how narrow minded we are..(yes i was not there and i should! bad King!!) This advice came from the founder of Pat School house and i thought it was so true and decided to share with all..

Why can't A be Aeroplane or Adam or Apricot? and B for Balloon or Baby? We have been trained so well in our mind all these years that A = Apple! Still not convinced? try this, Image a house, how would you draw it? Do you have 2 windows? and the door is in the centre of the windows? Let me bet, you have a chimney too?? (and the interesting fact is that we do not have a chimney in Singapore's home!) and when the speaker asked what is next to the house, everyone said without thinking, A Tree!

Now, i hope you are as convinced as me. My queen was teaching me that why house can't be a bird nest for birds or a ant's nest for ants? or a bee hive? why must houses must have a chimney and a door between two windows? That really explains how creative we are! One tips for all parents is to do horizontal teaching. Tell your kid, say B= Banana and then share with them banana cake or banana milk when you see them! this may help to induce their creativity in the long run.

Another interesting fact is that we often use "scare" tactics on our child. "if you dont do this, the police will come or God will be angry!" and here was the story the lady speaker told the audience. One day, a daughter did something wrong and the mom was very angry and told her daughter that God will be very angry with her for not finishing her prune and asked her to go back to her room as a punishment. An hour later , the mum was concerned and it was pouring heavily and thundering outside and decided to check on her. She found that her daughter was kneeling in front of the window and she was saying, "What is the fuss all about? i just didnt finished the 2 prunes!"

See how important we parents are? or i should say how poor thing we are! We thought by going to university, we will be better parents? we were not told! and school didnt teach us all these things! =) maybe this is a case to consider for our government who is promoting courtship at uni level to input these knowledge to them!

Lastly, ever you heard of friends telling you to watch your behaviour and words as your kids will pick it real fast? The speaker was sharing that in their school, they have a "pretend corner" and kids can use their creativity and act the role of the person they think of. So one gal pretend she was her mom, holding on to the phone and said "So! you are not coming back for dinner again!"

Olympic FEVER!!

I missed the girls!

Boy! What a month long of events back to back... It was such a relief that it was finally over.. from the Singapore Garden Festival setup to the roadshow for KCA and AMM..the days seems long and tiring.. and most importantly, i have not spend enough time with my love ones.. But thanks to my understanding queen and my lovely princesses, their love and smiles brightened each of my days during the past weeks and gave me that necessary support that i needed most!

I am still recovering from the past week's hectic schedule and i thought, it will be easier for me to post pics of our 2 princesses, which we know you missed so much! =)

I believe i can FLY!

That was exactly how we felt when we went got onto the Singapore Flyer! Thanks to 大姐(agnes' eldest sis) , we got to experience first hand on the Singapore Flyer.. and of course our princess Jazelle FIRST! Unfortunately, princess Jazlyn is still too young and she had to watch us from the ground!

Maybe Jazelle is still young and do not know what is fear.. she was literally running around the capsule throughout the ride! It was a slow and nice journey!so while everyone is enjoying the ride & scenery (which took about 20mins), the king was busy snapping away!!!... this was what i have missed =)

I'm Inspired!

Growing up!

watching both our princesses growing up is really an interesting journey.. Our princess Jazelle always amaze us as it will also be our first experiences.. such as she said, 'i wan 'ti lum' for mei mei!' it took us a while to understand that she wanted the mattress for Jazlyn.. and later we realised the word 'ti lum' came from our mom! and my little princess starts to talk n sing alot and very demanding too.. 'i wan plz.. dont wan'..etc..

As for bb jazlyn, she is growing up fine. Maybe she is the second child and we know what to expect from the experience we had from jazelle and thus not much of update for her compared to Jazelle. We also finally understood why there is this thing called second child syndrome! they will always feel left out..(because of us the parents giving excuses.. bad parents!!=p) But one thing we realised was that Jazelle loves to copy what the adults do. So if we show more affection to Jazlyn.. she will do that too! =)

So the usual flipping at 4th month and we are anticipating her to crawl soon.. However, having said that , one thing that she is very different from jazelle is that she drools alot!!=) My queen and i were also thinking, what happens when jazlyn starts to walk and talk? (wat else?.. a market place!!!)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAZELLE!

Jazelle is TWO!! What a milestone for our princess... it seems like it was just last month that she started to walk or talk and now she is singing, talking and demanding what she wants!

We didnt throw a big party but had a gathering of her cousins at our mom's place last evening.. the kids enjoyed themselves so much that the house was filled with their screams and laughters. As for her cake? My queen asked her a couple of times what she likes and she finally confirmed her preference, BARNEY! and so we had a barney party!

The JJ sisters!

Boy, i didnt realised how time really flies.( i have been repeating this so many times but it is a reality!) Our princess Jazelle will be turning 2 this week and our princess Jazlyn will be 5 months old in 2 days.. Jazlyn has started flipping and interacting with us.. Jazelle is picking up words everyday so much so that we were worried that she will pick up the wrong ones. such as.. "Dont wan Lah!" These 2 JJ sisters are zapping our energy day by day.. What's worst is when they are down with flu and cough.. it's like a time bomb. you won't know who's next!... Like the latest 'Kunfu Panda'.. we will be Panda Parents! =)

Happy Mother's Day! Happy Birthday! Happy People!

Yes! Whenever the month of May arrived, it would somehow translate to many happy people because it's their BIRTHDAY!!

This year is no exception, except my mom decided to celebrate her lunar 60th Birthday earlier by a year. (Guess it is one of those traditional belief!) Anyway, we were planning for her a surprise party.. but how?? easy.. Shannon supposed to be in BBK for her retreat but she flew back without her knowledge and we invited some of her close friends & relatives to the party!Andy had to be the 'bad guy' to drive our parents round and round so that we have more time to gather everyone before her arrival & to top it all, my queen went through lots to get her an amazing bday cake!!

So was our mom surprised??? YOU BET! and she was moved to tears! it had been awhile since we saw her so touched and happy.. Her smile made us(her love ones) forget all the hardwork, white lies(haha..) and preparation we had to go through..on behalf the 'Engsters', Thank YOU! all for making this party a memorable one for everyone!

It's MAGIC!

Yes! believe me, it's really magic! I could disappear for awhile (like magic!) and had kept many friends coming back hoping to see more pics but were disappointed... My sincere apology for being such a spoilt sport! =P

Ok! back to the magic that had captivated us as the sun sets at disneyland. The sky got dark pretty early and as the night falls, the weather falls too.. Imagine this.. our princess was well wrapped in her layers of clothing and seated comfortable in her stroller while the king and queen were "shivering" in the cold!(it was so hot in the day!!!) It got so cold at one stage that the 'smart' king went on a shopping spree.....

Well.. after a week of sushi and sakura, it was time for us to return back to reality! My queen will be back to work after her maternity leave and me back to the stressful world! But this trip was really enjoyable for us! The bonding between our princess and us was just awesome and most importantly spending quality time with my queen which we usually don't do (due to our kids) and even though we live under the same roof!!

ha! we are smarter the second time round..

Mickey? Mouse!.. Donald? Duck!... Plu? To!.. Goo? fy!..

That's exactly what our princess will do when we read out the characters of Disney to her. It's really amazing and bringing her to Disneyland had been one of my queen's MUST do list in Japan. As parents, we were just as excited, thinking that she will be overwhelmed by all her favourite characters and up close and personal! Especially when we had subscribed to disney playhouse channel with Starhub months before and she would danced with them and started making friends with the disney characters ..

So the night before, we were sharing with our princess where we will be going and repeated some names to keep her excited. The day finally came and it was a beautiful sunny day! We were up early, prepared our princess and we were on our way to Disneyland!

When we arrived at the station, the disney "experience" has actually began! and although, it was a distance away from the main entrance, you will always be reminded that you are in the magical kingdom!

As we were getting the tickets, we realised the characters are out to meet the public! Like a little kid, we grabbed our stuff, camera on standby and we rushed to introduced them to our princess...

it was only then that we realised, the 'oversized' characters got into our princess. All her softtoys were smaller than her and the disney characters in the disney channel is not bigger than the TV.. so when she saw the characters up close.. guess what?? she cried! and say.. No! Don't wan.. Pa! Pa!(as in scared) ... sign.. At that moment, both my queen and i went blank!(ain't we supposed to be here to see them???)and we were actually queuing to meet Mickey and Minnie..

"No!pa! Pa!"

"HELP" haha! Caught you! it was not Jazelle! she would have freaked out!

Boy! We have no choice but to give up the queue to see them but we didn't let that spoil our fun! =)

But what caught my attention was that it's their local tourists that made Tokyo Disney so successful! and i meant great local supporters!! It's something we got to learn!=p

Jazlyn is 3 months 2 weeks old!

As i was about to share with all our disney experience, my conscious took over and realised that we have neglected our princess jazlyn! "Bad Parents!!i want to protest" seems to the words that is coming from my princess..

Can you image? our princess is already 3 months plus. How time flies again! And as we were playing with her , suddenly all the images of Jazelle flashed in front of us. We started to ask, When did jazelle started smiling? when did she flips? and was she crying that much when she was 3 months.. That really made us wonder, Isn't we are more "experienced' now? how can we forget?? =) and we really have no clues..

Fortunately, due to this blog, it helps! Jazelle was learning to flip at 3 months plus but she was so frustrated that she kept making noise.. Boy.. isn't babies amazing.. and we the king and queen are really getting old!!! getting forgetful!(Excuses!!)

are we talking about snow? sakura? well..this is the favourite question our princess love to answer! just becos she learnt that in the sunday class at zoophonics.. and you should hear her saying 白色! so chinese!!

Well, back to our japan trip. As i was explaining that having a kid is no longer the same when we go on tour. Image, when she got up, its almost 10am, have to feed her, bath her , entertain her and then the queen and king take turns to bath and at the same time prepare the "princess bag" which contents her change of clothes, milk powder, diapers, toys.... So by the time we are out of the apartment, it's almost noon!! We became better each day and started to pack the basic the night before so that we can have an earlier day out. SEE!we are learning..

Ok, i have been told by my queen that there are too much words in the first blog and she is asking for more pics.. and say most of the visitors to our blog dont read , they just want to see the pics... ( so sad..) Anyway, here is our first 2 days in Toyko.. Enjoy! especially the SAKURAs!!!

We are Back! Happy, Accomplished! & Wiser!

Wow! Where should we start? It had been a wonderful experience for my queen and i. Thankfully to my mother in law and our domestic helper, our princess jazlyn was in their good hands and we were able to have a fantastic trip!My queen was extremely happy that we were in time for their sakura season and able to bring our princess to Disney! And i am sure for all the anxious parents out there who is thinking of bringing the young one overseas, they will have the same fear, worries and concerns as us. We were afraid that we may forget about the experiences we have learnt and thus decided to write immediately and it may take a few blogs to compete the whole trip. so pardon us ok? =)

Generally, the trip has been very fruitful. It bonded the family especially my princess and me. She wanted daddy to do everything that my queen was kind of jealous initally but was pretty happy that i have to do all the work instead of her! =) Anyway, from the preparation of the trip to the actual trip itself, having a kid with us have been an experience. You can't move as freely as before and by the time we are ready to go out, it's already noon.

FIRST, FIRST , FIRST

Yes, it was our first trip with our princess and our princess's first too. Thus for the preparation, we have to prepare the usual stuff such as the diapers, milkpowder, winter clothes, light weight stroller and my queen went further to get some medicines for common cold and cough and our princess's favourite books and toys to entertain her on the plane. We also bought the family travel insurance which will cover our medical expenses especially for jazelle and for the usual baggage delays or loss. The best is that if we fell sick after the trip, the insurance will cover that too!! 6 hrs flight is usually quite alright for us as we have the inflight entertainment but 6 hrs with a 2 yr old KID? we have to plan their entertainment!

For the flight, we deliberately booked the night flight thinking that our princess could sleep through the night and awake upon arrival. We even asked our agent to book an empty seat between us so that if we are lucky, our princess can have a seat for herself instead of the bassinet(as we were worried it will be uncomfortable) and she could sleep better. We were so WRONG! We prepared her before takeoff but she finished her milk before the plane took off ( as it was past her usual milk time) thus my queen went on to her plan B, Apple juice! We need to let her suckle so that she will have no problems with the pressure change during the takeoff. We had to come out with creative ideas how to prevent her from finishing the juice and fortunately, Plan B was well executed. Lights went off , and we were off to Japan! and our princesses was about to enter her LALA land and suddenly, the annoucement was made for refreshment and the lights came on again! (We were not warned about that!) Our princess was awaken and by the time the meals are served and lights off, an hour has passed! And we didnt realise that we have to book for infant/kids meal in advance and thus our princess didnt have her meal. You can't image our anxiety. There it is, 3 am , the queen and king were half awake and our princess was whinny, sleepy but just couldn't have her usual comfy position..

We managed to have the empty seat to us but it took us another hour to pacify her to sleep and she just can't find her comfy position and by the time she does, i have to relocated to another seat nearby so that she can sleep across the chairs! Guess what, by then the plane was about to prepare for arrival!! As for our friends who was with us, their son was with a bassinet and he slept through the flight. Wat a night and a valuable lesson learn.

How to be a 'Con Artist'?老千！

Believe us ! you need to be a 'con artist' to pacify your kids! and we need solutions! as you know our princess jazelle is growing up and with the new addition, jealousy is always there. Our baby is a sensitive baby and cries often and my queen will tend to her almost immediately like how all mothers would be. But if our princess jazelle cries to get her needs or wants, we will usually tell her 'NO!' Don't Do this, Don't Do that!""Stop Crying!". Now, if you are jazelle, what would you do? that's right, whin the whole day and cry whenever you have the chance.so that mommy or daddy will come to you. so much so it got into our nerves!! She will do everything to get your attention! such as climbing the table!

My queen saw this recommended book in ST last sunday and immediately she requested to be fetched to the library. Make a guess, what's the title of the book that caught her attention? HOW TO CON YOUR KID!by David Borgenicht and James Grace ( i am not joking!)

Here are some tips which we thought we would like to share with you!

1. How to get your kid to brush their teeth?

" Dont call it toothpaste. Call it Magic wishing paste! They will get to make a wish when done brushing!"

2.How to get your kid to talk quietly?

" Whisper to them, they will usually whisper back"

and when they yells, don't tell them to Stop Yelling but say " you dont need to yell, i can hear you when you use your normal voice!" or say " I know you are really loud- but how quiet can you talk?

3.How to get you kid stop crying? throw a tantrum?

Most of the time, kids cry because of frustations or injury. Like our princess, she may cry because she can't express herself well.

" Teach them baby sign language to communicate their needs!"

"Never tell them to STOP crying but encourage them to tell you why they are upset or what they really wants?

"master the art of misdirection! - When they cry, distract them with new toys, items etc.. such as LOOK at that tree!"

4. How to get your kid to share??

"read stories about sharing to your kids"

"Hype it up with your kid does share. Praise them!"

Kids dont understand sharing but they will understand " taking turns"

After reading the book, we realise the most basic understanding that we adults must have is that we should not communication to our kids like if we are talking to another adult.( We do that mistake all the time!) So don't use words that we usually use, speak their language. And they are still learning to express themselves and thus patience is required when we are dealing with them.

4 in 1 & 6 in 1!

A leap year is like world cup.. happens only every 4 years on the 29th Feb.. But what is 6 in 1?our Princess jazlyn, just had her 6 in 1 jab! =) Cried when she was injected but stop in less than a few cries.. We were so proud of her!

But having said that, she is still experiencing Colic and we, the adults have not been having a good sleep for a long while.. We can't wait for her to recover from it and start to play with her elder sister. (actually main reason is that we can have a better sleep.=p)

We have also learnt something new from Dr Toh earlier. She adviced my queen who is TBFing to stop drinking milk just in case our princess cannot tolerate lactose. What goes into mummy's stomach goes into the bb's! amazing huh..

1 = 1? Not true!!!

Why is that so? Though both are our princesses,both are girls, their characters are so different. Maybe Jazelle has made it so easy for us both , maybe we are inexperience or maybe who says having 2 kids would be anything easier! =)

Jazlyn cries pretty easily and it was made worst when she decide to sleep in the day and cry at night. Due to her cries, she developed colic and our sleeping patterns were all jumbled up! Esp. my queen who is complaining that her dark circles are getting "darker" .

Tips for Dads - When baby cries too much?

As parents, we will always be worried about our babies crying non stop. As they will cry for all reasons but when is too much? and when do we need medical treatment. Frankly, there isnt any straight forward answers and we realised we can't quantify it by the length of the cries. Based on our recent visit to our doc as we worried about our little gal have some virus in her stomach and the fact she cries so much more than Jazelle, here is what we have found out.

1. It's just HER! it is in her nature that she will cry when she is uncomfortable, hungry, sleepy, happy, angry etc.to gain your attention..In other words, she is a crybaby! ( ok we have accepted the fact!) hopefully when she is older , she can subsitute the cries with words.. =)

2. Due to colic, our princess has a stomach 'filled with air'. This is due to the fact that she graps so much air that it traps in her stomach. Now here is the exciting part. It will take a long while for her body to disperse the air out of her body . from the small intestines to the large intestines and finally out from " you know where". The intestines have to SQUEEZE the air out and thus causing discomfort for the baby.

3. As the baby is growing , the intestines will also be growing and stretching thus causing more discomfort as well. Ever heard why people say that baby will stop crying after 3-4 months? Because, by that time, the "stretch" will slow down and thus pain will be reduced.

So you see, dads! In the past, our parents will say that we have to turn the bed around if they sleep in the day and wakes up at night to reverse their cycle, or other old wivies tales when babies cries all day..Today, they are known as COLIC! =p

Some of you were asking us how is Princess Jazelle copping with her sis. Frankly, she is doing fine. She knows baby is her sister and that she has to love her..My queen was saying that maybe she is too young to know much. But having said that, jealousy is obvious too. She will scream or do things to gain our attention. Thus both of us have to make sure we have to show equal love and concern to both. and i can say IT IS NOT EASY! especially when our princess jazelle is treating her home like a sprinting track to run and the furnitures as her hills and mountains to climb! What made it worst is that princess jazlyn is crying her lungs out and we can't scold jazelle if she screams too loud. .. Tell me Tell me.. what should we do?...

and Thanks! to my dear queen!! She had been the 'superwoman' of the house for the past month! Taking care of everything that you can ask for and especially for our dear 2 princess that her dark circle is 'appearing' . Thank you! ABO not ABC!

Is it the ABC book that our princess Jazelle is reading or she is learning to say A. B ...C.? Well , she is learning alright but why ABO? and what does it got to do with our princesses? Simple, because of it, our princess Jazlyn has to be admitted into the hospital for a night to treat her jaundice.

What we know is that it is a common trend among asian babies and jazelle got it too.. but how it happens? It's only when our pediatrician explains to us that we realised it is not just about being ASIAN but because of ABO incompatibility! SO WHAT IS ABO??

Reseraching from the web, we found out that ABO incompatibility is a reaction of the immune system that occurs if two different and not compatible blood types are mixed together. (That makes sense, Agnes is O type and our princesses are A+! )

A, B, and O are the three major blood types. The types are based on small substances (molecules) on the surface of the blood cells. In people who have different blood types, these molecules act as immune system triggers (antigens). People who have one blood type form proteins (antibodies) that cause their immune system to react against other blood types. Being exposed to another type of blood can cause a reaction.

Simply what it means is that if the mother and child have different blood group, the baby's immune system will start to react. One of the reaction is yellow skin or what we know it as Jaundice.The acceptable reading is 12. Our princess recorded a 15 and she is advice to go for a double light treatment. It came down after a day and we thought she is recovering. But a week later, it went back to 12.3 again!

It had us worried. However, we learnt something interesting. The doc says that it is alright because, the baby is older now (by just one week?) and explained why she wanted us to admit our princess then was because her brain is still vulerable and she do not want to take risk. Another possiblilty for the jaundice is that it may be breastfeed induce especially our queen is on full BFing.

Ok.. enough of writing.. i can feel the pressure asking me " Show me the BABY!" =) so here goes..

New Addition. New Life.. Style

I was just looking through my first few blogs to recap the memories when our princess jazelle was born. The experience of being parents for the first time, the anxieties , the excitements, the ups and downs.. Boy, it seems like it was only last month when Jazelle was born. But do you know when will you realise that it had been awhile since then? Here is how!

Firstly, you will not remember how light and fragile the baby can be. You will forget how to wrap her up and your queen will not remember how to bf her and which position is the best. However, with some practice, our 'parenting' instinct came back and everything is in order.

The reality will hit you when you have to wake up several times at night! This is especially tough when you have 2 babies! in the past, we just have to focus on our princess and my queen can have a good rest at night. But with 2, everything changes.This is particularly so when my queen has decided to go full bfing! Waking up whenever her princess requires. Though we have my experience mother in law and domestic helper to assist us, but with 2, everything changes! On one hand you are are worried about the younger one going hungry or feeling uncomfortable. On the other hand you have to make sure the older one will not be woken up by the cries. Thus , instead of resting her body, my queen's mind is always alert and awake! Aint women amazing!!

Now the next question you will ask. What about the king? I have a new role! My job is to take care of the older one , play with her , entertain her while my queen handles the younger one. This is to ensure our Princess Jazelle will not felt left behind or 'unwanted' with the new additon. and did i tell you that my queen bought 2 presents before her delivery ? One is for jazelle when she visits us in the hospital, telling her that her sis bought her a present. the other one is when we brought the younger one home! Old wivies tale? you decide! =)

But one thing never change! The joy of reaching home, having your princess calling you " Daddy", seeing your queen playing with the little one, mother in law showering my queen with love and care and our domestic helper ensuring the household chores are done. These 5 ladies made me realised what HOME is all about! Kudos to them!

Ever wonder why people say size doesn't matters? Our princess Jazlyn is smaller than jazelle when she was born but she has an appetite! My queen has to bf her for 2 hours and a total of 40 mintues of bfing!! and now we are worried! Is she that hungry? or should we just feed her enough?? experience parents out there... tell us!!! what should we do?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Times really flies! i have been saying this for the past year in the blog as we watched our princess grow up.. It's another New year and its 2008! So many things have happened, both ups and downs , happy and sad but most importantly, we have friends and love ones like you who have been supporting and loving us all these while.. it had made our year once again so memorable! With our new addition soon, 2008 will be an 'exciting' year for us all!! =)

Jazelle is 18th months old!

Boy oh boy... i have not been updating this blog for the past one and the half months as highlighted by Stef! Agnes and myself have been really busy with our work and i just got too tired too blog it.. well.. maybe just lazy..okok sorry guys! NO MORE EXCUSES. here it is , the much awaited updates of our princess jazelle.

Our princess has been our "Happy APPLE", " Stress Reliever", " Joker"... you name it. she is everything.. and everything that she do amazes us and we just can't help falling in love with her.. calling her names and she became our talking point wherever we go. The feeling is so familiar, like we are 'madly in love' with someone...=)

She has started to talk from " poooh. to mouse..to Ye Ye to nai nai to Pleassee" and it is so amazing how toddlers at their age can pick things up so fast.. but of course they have their preference too!.. She still call my sis, which is her Gu Gu, Poo poo.. which really frustrates Shannon all day long.. No matter how we correct her, she will just say Poo Poo..

Our princess don't just walk, she runs... She will pick up words and try to repeat them after the adults.. and she understand instructions and having a mind of her own! Can you image all these happenings at the age of 18 months? As adults, we always felt that we were not that smart when we were their age? or we are just too young to remember.. ?? ( i think it is the latter.. haaha)

Jazelle goes to the BIRD PARK!

Ever wonder how it is like to bring your princess to the birdpark? How are we going to explain to her about the birds?? Jazelle.. here is a bird.. Look there .. another bird.. baby.. See over there ! Another big bird!! Birds Birds Birds everywhere!!! We were worried initially but our fear were unfounded as the birds brought to our princess so much of fun and laughter.. Maybe she is getting older and more responsive to the surroundings.. or maybe she like birds!! haha.... Here is the story!

Kids being kids... after all the birds, birds and birds...our princess finally surrendered!! We almost threw our white towel but thankfully we hung on!! Horray to the King and Queen! and as we left the bird park.. guess what?

Going GREEN! Green Secrets.

Hi ! i know i have not been updating the blog and our little princess for awhile. I have been really busy with an event, Creative Youth Exchange titled Green Secrets!

11 days of compact workshop and it really made me feel that i was back to my uni days' orientation! Boy, it's those late nights, no sleep, come in earliest and back last... event after event, task after task... and the days just go passed you..

Jazelle's Nature retreat!

Don't you think human nature is such a wonderful thing. Especially when your princess started to call you DAD...DI! that was the first word she will say (much to the jealousy of my queen). But the joy was short as our princess started to call everyone everything DADDY! so much so that even my queen started calling me Daddy and no longer Dear or Darling!!

Her next favourite word is none other than 'Mum Mum'.. whenever she wants to eat.. it took her awhile and only recently, she started trying other words such as 'there','ohh' and started calling our Queen, 'Mum.Mee'.. It's really amazing, isn't it?..(but i refused to call my queen mummy!) =p

As our princess started to get active and runs around, we hope to expose our little one to the magnificant world of nature when she is young and needless to say, our princess had her share of fun! FUN? or A stern warning from the queen and she says, 'DADDY!! it is so gross...'

Jazelle goes to the ZOO!

Every kid will go the zoo once and today is our little princess first visit to the zoo! It had been ages since we have been there and my dear queen has been waiting anxiously for this day.. the feeling she said is like ' bringing Jazelle to Disney'...

A Trip to the Farm!

As the saying goes, if you need to train your kid, expose them when they are young.. And as our princess has started walking, we decided to bring her to the farm again to expose her more to the environment and nature..It was a different experience for her as she was usually carried or pushed around when she visit the farm.. and i hope that one day, she will realised that bananas are green because they are not ripe and not because they are not cooked! =)

Jazelle has started WALKING!

13 months & 2 days! Our little princess has started to walk. Though she has been trying to move from places to place during the past weeks, She will crawl instead of walking. But she decided that she wanted to take that extra step today and it was really amazing!

From a baby to that small little steps... Boy.. no words can described our happiness and 'relief'.. The only words that came from my queen was that 'Jazelle has finally walked!' We have been waiting eagerly for her to take her first steps .. & yes! we are aware of the energy to "run" after her.. but we have been waiting and waiting.. and it happened this morning.. I was busy at work and when i received the sms from Agnes, i just can't wait to be back to see my little princess walk..

So here she is... our proud little princess...

JAZELLE - The toddler!

From a baby to a toddler, it was a pretty interesting milestone for our princess. As for the parents, it had been a greater milestone for us! Both Agnes and i used to chat about how small she used to be and her first flip to her first crawl.. and now we talk about her ' will it ever grow hair" , " when will she start to walk?" etc...

You see, adults are very contradicting creatures. On one hand, we want our princess to walk and talk.. but on the other hand, we are worried and concerned about the energy our princess will require from us when she learn to walk and talk!!! How ironical, ain't we?

Just recently, our princess's doting Grandma signed her up for a trial class for toddlers. We were quite skeptical and concerned if she was too young initially but curiosity of what is in the class made both of us took time off from work to be with our princess. Boy! The class really amazed us on how early kids are placed into classes these days! Indeed it may assist the kids to learn faster and providing a good headstart.. but with all the paper chase in the current society, are the parents to be blame or the society? Can you tell us?? Are we overprotective and overly worried? are we becoming the typical 'kaisu' (scared to lose) parents??

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Our Princess Jazelle!

How time flies! It was exactly one year ago when our little princess came into this world! It was this day when our queen had to go through pain and labour complications but it was all worth while. Our princess has changed our perspective of life, bonded our families and most importantly, our little happy apple of the family! =)
